Placement Interview
Avi Kushwaha (Final B.Tech. ME)
Question-Answers
:
Q1) Sir what
company did you get placed in?
-> I got placed into Maruti Suzuki on Dec 13, 2022
as a Graduate Engineering Trainee.
Q2) Sir where
did you start your preparations from?
-> I was preparing for GATE and hence had deep
knowledge about my core subjects. In case of Aptitude, I preferred IndiaBix.com,
which is a free of cost website available publicly and solved a lot of
questions from it. The main aim is practicing and trying to solve questions in
as less time as possible. This was where I groomed myself from.
Q3) Sir did you
apply only for Maruti Suzuki in placements?
-> No, I applied for a lot of other companies as
well, such as Technip Energies, Samsung and LNT. I gave the interview for
Technip as well but the main thing for me was that I was interested in
Automobiles, whereas Technip wanted design engineers for pipeline designing and
I knew that I would not fit into that role. I had a focus on working in
Automobile industry because that’s where my passion lies and so, I waited for
Maruti hiring drive. The main focus for anyone reading this interview should be
that whenever you go for placements try to optimize your preparations according
to the company you think you will be most suitable for.
Q4) Sir what was
the process of your hiring?
-> The forms for Maruti came out in the month of
august and many of us filled it out. Then we had a test in November and there
was a qualification list created of which I was a part. Then I had my interview
scheduled which had two stages, first the presentation round where we had to
present ourselves, explain about my journey, extra-curricular activities and
how I was different from and a class apart from others.
After this we moved to the interview round. The interview
panel had three members, one from technical background and two others from HR
background. All of these rounds took place at the same time and the interview
was 30 minutes long. A total number of 16 candidates were selected for the
company and I was fortunately one amongst them.
Q5) Sir did you
do any internship before?
-> Yes, I did an internship in my 5th
semester from Simulation Labs Pvt. Ltd., a research internship to be specific,
in the domain of aerodynamic analysis of a wing flap of trainer plane or a
subsonic aircraft. This internship lasted for two months from 14th
Feb to 8th April. The internship was off-campus.
Q6) Sir what
role did your internship play in the placements? How necessary is it to have an
internship?
-> Internship boosted me a lot. My main focus is
on the research and development domain, even in Maruti R&D also had various
fields and I was interested in Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD). CFD is a very
emerging field in almost all engineering fields and even medical fields. We
study the effect of air on automobiles, planes etc. and find answers to questions like : How much
drag is generated ?, How much resistance does air create? and a lot more. It
also includes research on topics like Crash test of an automobile, which leads
to a lot of waste of resources and how we can pre-estimate the amount of
wastage. The interview needed a thorough knowledge of core mechanical subjects,
which was solidified by this internship.
Q7) Sir any
Keywords or main points that you would like to advise the juniors to make their
CV attractive and easier to catch the recruiter’s attention?
-> Your CV should always be of one page only and
should not contain a lot of description. Everything should be mentioned in
point form and in a precise manner. The first thing should always be your career
objective, then your short term and long term goal, your academic
qualifications (marks of 10th , 12th and CGPA up to 6th
semester should be mentioned), then comes the internships, workshops and
trainings. In case of mechanical branch, internship is kind of optional for us
and trainings are a major part of our curriculum in 7th semester. I
did my training from Pragati Power Corporation Ltd., which was related to core
mechanical subjects. It was a gas turbine based power plant and it was a winter
internship. A piece of advise from my side would be to go for private
internships if you want to add to your knowledge because in case of government
power plants, it won’t help you add much value to your skills. It also depends
on whether the internship is paid or unpaid. In my case, training is something
where you will learn concepts and internships are where you will get incentives
based on the completion of your objectives.
Another point to add in CV’s is the Position of
Responsibility(ies), like I was the Vice-President of AutoRob Club, worked in
events department and joint secretary as well. I was also the campus ambassador
for National Engineering Olympiad (NEO) for 1 month. You can also add a column
stating in what specific fields are you an expert in, for me it was Auto Cad,
Solid Works etc. It helps a lot if these
skills are valuable to the company.
Q8) Sir does
CGPA play any role in the placements?
-> Yes, CGPA is very important because it is the
first basis of your shortlisting.
Q9) Sir according to you, what should be the CGPA
for getting placed in a good company?
->You should maintain a minimum of 7 CGPA for
shortlisting of almost all companies. I had a CGPA of around 7.97 till my third
year. Another focus should be on Backlogs, if there are any active backlogs
then you will not be eligible for placements.
