Placement Interview

Surbhi Chaudhary (CSE)

Question-Answers :

Q1) Ma’am Please introduce yourself and tell us about the company you got placed in?

-> I am Surbhi Chaudhary, Final B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering, currently placed in Optum. I got this opportunity via on-campus placement drive which was undertook by Training and Placement Cell. As of now, the package I was offered stands second highest in the college placement drive 2022-23.

Q2) Ma’am please tell us about the insights and process of your placement?

-> The first shortlisting took place through CGPA criteria, they accepted all students with CGPA above 7(some companies keep it 7.5 also).

Then we had an OA (online assessment) which consisted of one DSA question and Multiple Choice Questions based on computer fundamentals, which were not very difficult, even moderate practice would suffice. There were around 30-40 MCQs and 1 DSA question. In this round around 70 students were shortlisted.

We had two technical interviews, in the first one 50 students got selected and after the second round 29 students eventually got placed in the company.

Most of the IT companies have the same procedure for hiring, they will give 1-4 DSA questions and almost similar selection criteria.

Q3) Ma’am please share with us some tips on how to build our resume?

l   Resume is a one page introduction of what all you have done in your college life and what knowledge and experience you have.

l  Resume should be ATS friendly, i.e., it should contain all those keywords that a company looks for. Do not add your photograph in resume. All points should be in bullet form and not in paragraphs.

l  It’s good to have as many projects that showcase the tech-stacks and technologies that you have learnt.

l  It is also important to have an internship, because it is a plus point of working on-site with any company. But even if you can’t grab one, then your projects should be really nice. To display it your Resume, You should write company name, the timeline for which you worked and what stacks did you work on.

l  You should also have a good practice of DSA and good coding profiles on popular online coding platforms.

l  Make sure that your resume is as crisp and short as possible. It passes all requirements and aptly defines you and your knowledge.

l  For getting ideas and templates for your resume you can use apps like Overleaf or can refer to LinkedIn.

l  Most of the students prefer projects based on Web Development. I did my projects in MERN stack and for back-end I used NodeJS, React and other stacks. Try and have projects which are full-stack. You can use PepCoding, GFG, Love Babbar for learning Web-Development.

l  You can also make “company-specific” Resume and take help from LinkedIn regarding that. It will really help to get selected in a particular company for a particular profile.

Q4) Ma’am many students have doubts on whether to first start with Web-Development or with DSA, what would you say about it?

-> This is more of a personal choice because there are a lot of things both in DSA and Web-Development, which need consistent practice. I started first with Web-Development because it does not have a lot of writing in code, but you can also learn both of them in parallel.

Q5) Ma’am how did your Academics help you in your selection process?

-> For CS branch, 90% of the subjects which you study in second year ultimately help build your CS fundamentals. Do make proper notes because it will help in your final year placements.

Q6) Ma’am have you done any internship(s)?

-> Yes, I did an internship with a startup company of one of our college Alumni. It really helped me recall Web-Development skills and sharpen them as well.

Q7) Ma’am please suggest us some practice platforms for DSA?

-> For DSA, there are many different sources and you can take any of the courses according to your needs. For paid courses, they will have everything in a structured manner and you won’t have to invest your time on structuring but even though you can practice on YouTube!

Q8) Ma’am please share with us your thoughts on Competitive Programming and their contribution in your placement?

-> If you want to clear OA’s of big companies then CP is a must because it helps you time your approach and think of optimal solutions. Especially, for harder questions of OA, Competitive Programming can be really helpful.

Q9) Ma’am how should the students start with their placement preparations?

-> You should develop interpersonal skills, how you carry yourself, how you communicate and many other trivial but important things. Many people clear OA easily but are unable to clear interview so you should know how to express yourself. I also started practicing at the end of second year, and that much time is more than enough for your personal development.

Q10) Ma’am are there any language barriers during interviews?

-> It is preferable to be fluent in English but it’s not a problem if you speak in Hindi as well.

Q11) Ma’am there  are many opportunities for women in IT sector. Did you appear for any of those companies?

->Yes, I did appear. For them you need to know CP and they would also ask behavioral question, questions relating to leadership etc. So you need to know all these things for selection in those companies.
