Placement Interview
Himanshu Sharma(Final B.Tech. OT)
Question-Answer:
Q1) Sir in which
Company are you placed in?
-> I got
placed in Bunge India Pvt. Ltd.
Q2) Sir can you
kindly brief us on your interview rounds.
-> The
Interview round generally consists of four sub[1]rounds.
The first round is an aptitude round in which you will be asked to answer about
30 questions. This round can be both offline or online depending on the
company. The questions generally include Verbal ability and reading
comprehension, Logical reasoning and data interpretation, Quantitative aptitude
questions (average level). Some companies may also ask aptitude questions based
on the calculations of your branch specific subject-related topics. The second
round is the Group Discussion (GD) round, in which a group of 8-10 students
will be made to sit in a group and they will be given a topic to discuss for
15-20 minutes. The topic can be any issue of general awareness or current news.
For Ex: A company ADM which regularly visits our branch gave the topic on G20
Summit as Indian is currently holding the president-ship of G20 this year. 85%
companies give GD on these kind if general topics but 15% companies might also
ask branch specific topics to discuss in GD like the company in which I got
placed (Bunge) gave a subject specific topic i.e. 'trans fats 'must be
completely eliminated from food products, and we were required to speak in
favour or against of it. The third round is the technical interview round and
lasts for approx. 50 minutes. Here your grip on the core subjects of your
branch will be tested. For this round you should have deep knowledge of the
main subjects of the department which are generally from 3rd year. Like in Oil
technology we have TSFS and ROO as the most important subjects in 3rd year.
Questions will also include the processes which you have studied in your summer
internship. The calculation based questions and the approach to solve any
numerical problem of the core subjects is also asked. The last round is the HR
round. It is the easiest round and usually lasts for 10-15 min. The first
question for almost everyone is tell me something about yourself. Other
questions may be of the type 'why do you want to join us',' your 3 positive and
3 negative qualities', 'where do you see yourself after 5 years', 'are you
preparing for any other exam or not'. These are the most favourite questions in
the HR round.
Q3) Sir how did you prepare for the interview?
-> I prepared
basic CAT exam topics for aptitude round. Some websites like IndiaBix.com can
also be very helpful to prepare for the placement drive. For GD round you
should be very confident with your spoken English and your voice should be loud
and clear. You should have a clarity of thought while putting your points in
GD. You should be aware about current topics as well. For technical round
revise your internship notes and important core subjects. It is advised to make
notes during your 45 days internship so that during placements you can revise
through them. For HR round there are some set of questions which you need to
keep in your mind.
Q4) Sir did you find
any different questions apart from the normal ones in any of your rounds?
-> During the
HR round, I was grilled for around 50 minutes. There were 2 very experienced
technical people in my HR round. So I was asked deep technical questions in
that round, which is generally not expected in that round. Another question
that I was asked was that my family is from a governmental service background
so I must be preparing for any exams related to governmental service. Here they
check how you react to the situation and how well you justify your answer when
you are continuously cross questioned. You need to be optimistic during giving
the answers with proper justification.
Q5) Sir what was your
mindset in your second year about placements?
-> I knew from
the beginning (2nd year) that I want to get placed in an MNC of my core sector.
At the same time I wanted to keep my CGPA above 8 so that if any company puts
any specific CGPA criteria then I should be able to qualify it. I also tried to
build up my conceptual knowledge in the core subjects of the department so that
when I join any company for internship, I should be able to relate the practical
processes over there with the theoretical knowledge that I gained in college to
fully utilize my internship period.
Q6) Sir you told us
about the important topics so will they be useful during our internships?
-> Yes, they
will help you out a lot because everything is going to be practical over there.
You might also meet some of your college alumnus there who might help you out
to understand the things in detail, through their experience.
Q7) Sir how did you
make your CV such that it got selected for placements?
-> Not all
companies demand your CV in the beginning. Some of them might conduct aptitude
and GD rounds first and then ask for your CV before the technical interview
round, while others may shortlist you based on your CV, it totally depends on
the company. For Ex: HUL shortlisted students according to the CV in beginning
itself. In the CV you should write impressive statements in your career
objective. Your CV should look systematic and clear. Each of your experiences
and internship projects should be mentioned in it in the form of headings and
sub headings properly. You should not include any thing which you have not done
or which you don't know in the CV because 90 percent questions are from your CV
itself. You should be able to properly justify each of the activities which you
have mentioned in the CV.
Q8) Sir what is the
impact of Co-curricular in placements?
-> Whenever
you do any co-curricular activity or coordination of events it showcases your
organizational capabilities. It also develops your personality. You heed to
showcase this development in your personality to the recruiters. You should be
able to justify whatever you have done in your college life.
