PLACEMENT INTERVIEW

Piyush Rajput(ET)

Q1) Sir please give a brief introduction about yourself and the company you are placed in.

Ans=> I am PIYUSH RAJPUT currently I am a Final B.Tech.  Electronics Engineering student at Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur and  I am placed in the JIO Platform Limited at the post of 5G Research and Development System Engineer.

Q2) Sir how many rounds of interviews (Technical and HR) did you face? Please tell us about the duration of the interviews and also throw some light upon the regions on which most of the questions were asked.

Ans=>  First of all we had two tests on the mobile app named JIO Career i.e. basic test(Test 1) comprising of 15 questions and Advanced test (Test 2) comprising of 20 questions. Based on these tests we were shortlisted for the interview.

Now, regarding the interviews we had only one technical interview which was about 1 h 15 min long although the average duration for the interviews was 50 minutes as some had 1 h long interviews where some also had interviews of 40 min and 20 min too. During the interview first they will ask about the basic core questions related to analog electronics and then they will ask a few questions about wireless communication like GSM module, etc. and then they subsequently increase the level of questions and ask questions from all the subjects like microprocessors, analog circuits, low pass digital signal processing. They will also ask a few basic general questions around you if there is JIO fiber installed, ether net cable installed in the laptops, etc. then tell their frequency range, etc.

There is no HR round of interviews, one will get placed through the technical round only.

Q3) Sir what is the prerequisite information that we should know about the company before appearing for the interview?

Ans=>  Whichever company it may be, first of all, find out what is the mission of the company, then discover in which field the company works and for what purpose the company is hiring you.

Q4) Sir how did you prepare for the interview? What was the mindset before appearing for it?

Ans=> When we reach the final year, the students start rushing for the placements and they then start the preparation for it.

For placement, generally, everybody studies aptitude and basic technical questions. As I was preparing for GATE, therefore I got a good hold on technical questions in the third year itself and for aptitude I prepared from various platforms like IndiaBrix.com and Pre placement, there are various sites like these where one can find different types of aptitude questions, and solve them, after solving those aptitude questions of any company they will seem to appear on the easier side.

Q5) Sir from where did you do your internship? What was the role of your internship regarding your placement?

Ans=> I did my internship at Defence Electronic Applications Laboratory under DRDO which is located in Dehradun. There I did my internship in the antenna system designing domain means I designed different types of antennas like the ones in 5G smartphones which are being used nowadays. During the interview also I was asked the same question, from where did you do your internship and there also I gave the same reply as given here. Then the interviewer there asked how could your internship benefit us. Then I replied that in the future if Jio comes in antenna designing then I could be helpful for that.

Q6) Sir what was the duration of your internship?

Ans=> My internship duration was of 45 days. It was a summer internship after the 3rd year.

Q7) Sir what are the main objectives that should be kept in the CV? Sir please explain the role of POR.

Ans=> For making of a CV, projects and internships are the main constituents. Companies usually don't pay discernable attention to others. On the top of the CV, there should be a bold heading of "Areas of Interests" which showcases what is your field of interest and towards which direction you want to head in the future. If anybody gives a look to your CV then he will be addressed with your objectives at first glance only as soon as he sees your areas of interest. Now the downside, you need to mention the internship, give a bold heading of "internship" and provide the details under that, similarly, give the bold heading of "projects" and mention the details.

It goes like you put your name, address, educational background ( details of high school, intermediate, and graduation), internships, and projects, and also mention co-curricular activities if you were involved in any.

POR ( Position of Responsibility) plays an important role if you are in a leadership position in some council or associate head in some events and event management, etc. Then applying to companies that take care of management, etc. gives you a good edge over other candidates. Otherwise, if you are applying in a technical field then POR would not be much helpful and will not matter at all.

Q8) Sir how could those students get a good edge over the technical portion who are not involved in the preparations of GATE?

Ans=> For electronics, I think that if you give decent and punctual attention to your studies in the 3rd year then your technical part will become strong on its own. I know about some of my mates who did not prepare for the GATE but eventually got a fair hold over technical in preparation of just 2-3 days because interviewers don't ask in-depth questions, unlike GATE. They ask some numerical questions and the rest of the questions asked by them can be answered by just one quick sight overview of the topics prepared in 5-10 days.

Q9) Sir according to you are 5-10 days sufficient to crack the interview?

Ans=> Enough, 5- 10 days are good enough to crack the placement interviews of core electronics.

Q10) Sir any Advice for 3rd year Electronics students who will be sitting for the upcoming Placement drive?

Ans=>  Electronics students are very fortunate to have both paths either to dive in IT-Sector or go for Core Electronics this depends upon their interest, don't go for placement in coding just because you don't have any interest in core electronics, this will not benefit you in any way, maybe you take the placement and land up in a company but aftermath you will realize that this was not your cup of tea, and whoever is interested in Core Electronics, try that you get placed in a very good core company, like our college don't get an appreciable visit of good core companies, just Jio, Airtel and other communication companies come here but you try to reach off-campus through LinkedIn like Synopsis, Qualcomm, Intel, Global logic, Logic route, etc. and surely if you are highly talented in VLSI domain or vary of VDSL, then definitely you will be hired by these companies.
